Using the Natural Power of Milk to Improve Your Skin

We’ve been told our whole life that milk is good for our bones, but what if I told you that milk is also extremely good for your skin?

Science and research studies have shown that milk can benefit your skin, but probably not in the ways you’d think. For starters, you don’t actually have to drink it to get the benefits, which is good news for all of our readers who are lactose intolerant or vegan.

Here are 5 different ways you can use the natural power of milk to improve your skin:

  1. Toning
Frustrating red spots got you all fired up? Try using a little bit of whole milk-based yogurt. The dairy base acts as a calming agent for your skin, reducing redness, while the probiotics in the yogurt absorb into your skin cells. Plus, it’s the perfect consistency for a face mask.

  2. Moisturizer
Much like a thick and luxurious moisturizing cream, milk has been known to absorb into your skin and make it extremely soft. Now you may be wondering, “Do I need to go jump into a massive tub of milk?” No, not at all. Simply adding a couple of cups of milk to your bath will do the trick.

  3. Exfoliation
Did you know that milk contains a secret chemical ingredient that can actually provide exfoliation when applied to your skin? Lactic acid, which is a form of alpha hydroxy acid, is found in high-priced chemical exfoliates as well as in milk. The good news about milk is that it’s not as harsh as typical exfoliates since it’s smooth versus gritty. Dipping a cotton pad in milk and running it across your skin will act as a natural exfoliate and leave your skin feeling silky soft afterwards.

  4. Cleanser
Have you been searching for a natural cleanser for sensitive skin? A lot of people find most cleansers on the market today to be too harsh for sensitive skin. Using whole milk in place of a daily cleanser not only will sooth sensitive skin, but it will act as a natural purifier, wiping away excess oil and makeup.

  5. Acne Control
Remember when we talked about using milk as a toning mask? Well, it can also be applied to reduce acne. Like we talked about before, milk-based yogurts carry powerful probiotics that can absorb into your skin cells. In addition to this, adding a milk-based yogurt to a powerful antioxidant such as honey, can help keep your acne under control. These two natural powerhouse ingredients can be mixed together and applied to your skin in the form of a face mask, just make sure you keep your hair away from the honey, unless you want a sticky situation on your hands.

Your skin is something you have to live with for the rest of your life, so it’s important to take care of it when you’re young, but these milk tips and tricks can be applied at any age.
