6 Habits of People with Flawless Skin
You know when you're scrolling through social media or watching the TV and you see those celebrities basically flaunting their beautiful skin? You may think it's because they have all this money to spend on the best skincare products or maybe they were just blessed with good genes. But I'm going to let you in on a little secret - it's not all about money or "good genetics."
And no, it's not just because they have an insane 12-step skincare routine either (though maintaining a consistent skincare routine is important). The real secret to flawless skin? Creating habits that enhance your skin's beautiful glow.
Here are the top 6 habits people with flawless skin have:
1. They drink lots of water.
Staying hydrated is crucial when it comes to having healthy skin.
If you're not drinking enough water, you may find that your skin feels tight, dry, or even flaky.
The more water you drink, the fewer lines and wrinkles you'll see.
2. They don't go to sleep with makeup still on.
Leaving makeup on overnight can trap dirt and bacteria on your skin which can lead to breakouts, inflammation, or even infections.
Sleeping with makeup on also interrupts your cell turnover rate which means your skin can't shed dead skin cells as efficiently. This can result in signs of premature aging, like fine lines and wrinkles.
3. They always wear sunscreen.
It may seem like a hassle to slather on sunscreen every morning, but it's extremely important. Sunscreen will help protect your skin from harsh UV rays that can cause damage and even skin cancer. And yes, it's still important to wear even on cloudy days.
4. They wash their sheets and pillow cases often.
Dirty sheets carry bacteria that can harm your skin and lead to breakouts and inflammation.
Make an effort to clean your sheets at least once a week.
5. They don't smoke.
Your skin can actually absorb nicotine, causing signs of premature aging like fine lines, wrinkles, and age spots. It can even delay wound healing, limit blood flow, and increase infections.
Quitting smoking can greatly improve your skin's appearance (and not to mention your overall health too).
6. They stick to a daily skincare routine.
You don't have to go out and buy super expensive skincare products that claim they'll cure every skin problem you have. Because guess what? They won't. Not if you're not taking care of your skin in other ways too.
You want to make sure, at the very least, you're washing and moisturizing your skin (including your décolleté) every day and night. You also want to make sure you're exfoliating at least once a week.
Washing your face is the most effective way to get rid of dirt, debris, and excess oil to help keep your skin looking and feeling healthy.
Moisturizing afterwards helps lock in essential nutrients and helps protect your skin.
Exfoliating helps get rid of dead skin cells to reveal truly glowing skin underneath and improve the effectiveness of your other skincare products.
The biggest challenge of them all is trying to form these habits. Sure, you can talk about them all day long, but it doesn't really matter if you're not doing anything, right?
The best advice I can give you is to start off slowly with trying just one of these habits, not all six. And if you don't already have a skincare routine in place, I'd start with that one first.
It takes different people different amounts of time to form a habit, but once you form one, it'll make the next one seem that much easier. And you'll be that much closer to achieving and maintaining that flawless complexion you're after.
