6 Anti-Aging Superfoods
Your skin is the best indication of how well you're treating your body. Your skincare routine, your sleep schedule, and your diet all play a big role in how your skin looks.
Eating large amounts of sugary or greasy foods can make the collagen in your skin actually break down a lot faster than if you're eating healthier foods. The breakdown of collagen in your skin can lead to signs of premature aging, inflammation, and increased free radical damage.
As you age, your body doesn’t run as well as it did twenty years ago, so it’s important to take good care of it. If you’re looking for ways to keep your complexion soft and glowing, try opting for healthier foods.
Here are a few of my favorite anti-aging superfoods:
1. Dark Chocolate
We all love to splurge on a little chocolate here and there. Dark chocolate specifically has many benefits for your skin. It contains antioxidants and fatty acids that help to prevent the breakdown of collagen, fight wrinkles, and reduce inflammation. It can also help to soothe blemishes, reduce redness, and improve your overall complexion.
2. Spinach
Any leafy greens are ideal for building a healthy body, but spinach can also provide your skin with anti-aging benefits. Spinach is high in Vitamins A, C, and K which all work together to keep your skin healthy. Vitamin A helps combat inflammation and improve cell turnover, while Vitamins C and K work to promote and protect collagen.
3. Berries
Blueberries, raspberries, cranberries, and blackberries are filled with many antioxidants like Vitamins A and C, flavonols, and anthocyanins which help reduce cellular aging. As you grow older, your body naturally begins to produce less collagen, but eating berries can help promote collagen production and reduce skin wrinkling. The antioxidants found in berries can also help protect your skin against sun damage.
4. Fish
Fatty fish like salmon and mackerel are filled with Vitamin E and omega-3 fatty acids that can support, not only your skin, but your hair and nails as well. Vitamin E and fatty acids are important for keeping your skin thick, supple, and moisturized. Eating fish can help reduce inflammation and redness as well as strengthen your skin.
5. Avocadoes
Avocados are one of the best anti-aging fruits you can include in your diet. They contain healthy fats that are important for helping your skin stay moisturized and firm. Vitamins C and E further promote healthy skin by helping to prevent UV damage and promote cell turnover.
